Origins
With the impending move of Siglap Sec from its Cheviot Hill premises to Pasir Ris, a group of former Siglapians (mainly from the 70s batch) organised a get-together at the old School’s Hall.
At a subsequent meeting following from this, I learnt of the existence of the Old Siglapian Association (OSA), the predecessor to the Siglapian Alumni Association (SA). The OSA was started in 1959. A major accomplishment for the OSA in 1997 was the organising of the Farewell Dinner that was held at the School field in Cheviot Hill – can refer to the Clarion during that time to retrieve the statistics and other details.
In 1999/2000, the OSA was renamed together with its new logo of “SA”, representing an adult swan taking care of a young swan.
The SA remains a registered society, with its own Constitution, and is the only official link for all former Siglapians with their alma mater. In 2005, the SA activity organised the 50th Anniversay Celebrations. And in 2006, the Siglapian Youth Alumni was launched to engage the past and present while nurturing a cohesive future between Siglapians. Once a Siglapian, always a Siglapian.
